Is Urdu slipping away at home?

This is rarely about school. It is about a language leaving a family in one generation.

You speak Urdu, they answer in English

They understand everything and reply in another language. It happens gradually, and by the time it is obvious the habit is already set.

They cannot really talk to their grandparents

Conversations shrink to greetings and smiles. For many families this is the moment the decision gets made.

They cannot read a word of the script

Spoken Urdu without the script closes the door on letters, books, poetry and anything written by their own family.

Nobody at school will teach it, and you have no time

Teaching your own child a language is hard — you are their parent, not their teacher, and both of you know it by the second week.

Urdu Curriculum

Urdu Learning for Every Level

From the first letters to reading and writing fluently, our lessons are tailored to where your child actually is, whatever their age.

The Urdu alphabet and qaida

Where every Urdu learner starts. Letters first, then the sounds that make them speak.

  • The letters, and the sound each one makes
  • Zabar, zer and pesh — what the marks do to a letter
  • Joining letters, and how each one changes shape
  • First words, then first sentences

Reading and understanding

Real Urdu text. From simple words to short stories, we help children read with confidence.

  • From simple words to whole sentences
  • Reading in the Nastaliq script
  • Understanding what the words actually mean
  • Stories and nazmein written for children

Writing and dictation

Handwriting in Urdu is a skill of its own. We help children write clearly and correctly.

  • Forming each letter correctly
  • Writing words, then whole sentences
  • Imla — dictation, which is how spelling is really learned
  • Writing their own sentences, and then their own essays

Stories, poetry and culture

The reason to keep a language is what it says. Stories, poetry and Urdu culture make learning meaningful.

  • Stories written for children, not simplified adult ones
  • Simple nazmein to learn and recite
  • The words families actually use at home
  • Longer writing — mazmoon — for older children

Why the Urdu script matters

Most online Urdu teaching for children abroad happens in small groups and in Roman Urdu — Urdu written in English letters. It gets a child speaking quickly, and it stops there: a child taught only in Roman can speak Urdu and still cannot read a single line their grandmother writes.

We teach one child at a time, in Urdu script from the beginning. It is slower in the first month and it is the difference between a child who can speak some Urdu and a child who has the language for life.

  • 1-on-1 sessions — not one teacher and five children
  • Nastaliq script from the start, Roman only as a bridge
  • A child who can read the script can read anything, for the rest of their life
